NAWANSHAHR : Deputy Speaker, Punjab Legislative Assembly, Jai Kishan Singh Rouri, while inaugurating the 55th crushing season of Cooperative Sugar Mill Nawanshahr, today, said that the Punjab government was committed for the betterment of the sugarcane growers of the state.
He said that due to the pro-farmer policies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Cooperative sugar mills have started the crushing season in the state this time without any pending arrears to the farmers. He said that according to the demand of the sugarcane farmers in the state, the price of Rs 380 per quintal and the timely start of the mills have given a major relief to the sugarcane cultivators. He said that Nawanshahr Mill had emerged as the first among the cooperative mills to start its crushing season for 2022-23.
Accompanied by MLA from Balachaur Mrs Santosh Kataria, MLA from Nawanshahr Dr. Nachhatar Pal, senior leader of AAP from Nawanshahr Lalit Mohan Pathak, Chairman Sohan Singh Uppal and General Manager Surinder Pal, the Deputy Speaker Rouri formally switched on the power to start the crushing season.
Before starting the crushing season for the year 2022-23 Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib was also somenised.
The general manager of the mill, Surinder Pal, while welcoming the prominent personalities present on the occasion, said that this time the mill had bonded 36 lakh quintals of sugarcane, out of which 32 to 33 lakh quintals were likely to reach to the mill. He said that the previous year 29.66 lakh quintals of sugarcane was crushed, from which 2.91 lakh quintals of sugar were produced. He said that the co-generation plant installed in the mill has been commissioned from 21.11.2022 and is exporting electricity. This plant has started supplying electricity and steam to the mill today.
On the occasion of the beginning of the crushing season, the first three sugarcane farmers Jaswinder Singh Daghaam, Jaswant Singh Pathlawa and Bhupinder Singh Golewal were honored with garlands and Doshalas.
