Pakistan Army does not want people to enjoy true democracy: Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala

AMRITSAR: Unnecessary military interference in Pakistan's politics continues. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was ousted in a no-confidence motion in April this year, and key leaders of his party, Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have appointed some intelligence officials to fill 20 vacancies in the Punjab Assembly.

Stating this in a statement here today Mr Sarchand Singh Khaiala leader of Bhartiya Janata Party said that
Influencing the by-elections on July 17 for seats, the ruling party has accused the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and its allies of manipulating and engaging in political engineering to win. He was arrested by the Lahore-based ISI. He also specifically mentioned Brigadier Rashid, Sector Commander, ISI.

Meanwhile, according to Sarchand Singh, the country's ninth prime minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was arrested and hanged by a military court after being overthrown. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif found it costly to respond to a peace proposal put forward by Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1999.

He further said After the army thwarted the proposal through the Kargil war, Sharif's ouster of Army Chief General Pravesh Musharraf not only led to a coup d'etat for him.

Instead, after the arrest of Sharif, rumors of his execution by a military court saved his life with the intervention of the governments of the United States and Saudi Arabia. With the fall of General Musharraf, the deportation of Sharif and Benazir Bhutto in 2007 became possible.

Even though there were three military coups in Pakistan. But every time the army remained in power for a long time, the army tasted closer to power. At the same time, the army and the 'Deep State' made their mark on civil administration and gradually took over politics. Considering itself above the constitutional institutions, the army has garnered the support of political parties, the judiciary, the bureaucracy and even the media.

At present, there is no need for the military to seize power through a coup d'etat, but through a 'deep state' and a puppet government, which maintains the balance of power in its hands. The military does not want its system to be challenged. That is why the Pakistan Army has never allowed civilian governments to take effect. He has always feared that powerful civilian governments could move towards India and Afghanistan.

This can reduce the need and importance of a strong army. Therefore, the Army has been focusing on limiting the ability of any citizen or government to challenge its autonomy or policy goals. The failure of the '99 peace resolution through the Kargil war is an example of this.
