PHAGWARA: Indefinite dharna by the members of Bhartiya Kisan Union to block vehicular road traffic at National Highways continued on second day on Tuesday. Even the meeting

between Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Amit Kumar Panchal and Senior Superintendent of the Police Vatasala Gupta with farmers representatives could not be fruitful this afternoon. Earlier both officers went to grain market to meet commission agents.

DC Panchal assured the leaders that efforts are being made to start procurement and lifting of paddy from various Grain Markets of District Kapurthala including Grain Market of Phagwara and all other focal points. He assured that all the work at various Gran Markets has been started in the entire District Kapurthala.

BKU(Doaba) President Manjit Singh Rai and General Secretary Satnam Singh Sahni stated that the matter is not of merely District Kapurthala and Grain Market Phagwara, they are sitting on protest against tardy procurement and lifting at Grain Markets of Punjab. The meeting was also attended by ADC Navneet Bal, SP Gurpreet Singh and SDM Jashanjit Singh.

Thus meeting of leaders of BKU/Doaba with DC Kapurthala and SSP Kapurthala remained inconclusive However the traffic on Slip Roads was restored by the farmers today, but dharna on highways was continued till acceptance of their complete demands.

Speeches by various farmer leaders from stage were continuous at dharna site. Later D. C. Panchal along with SSP Gupta and other officers again visited grain market to ensure speedy lifting of paddy.
