Festival of Science to Spark Curiosity and Innovation Among Students in Amritsar

AMRITSAR: The Society for Promotion of Science & Technology in India (SPSTI), Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), and District Administration of Amritsar are thrilled to announce the Festival of Science (Vigyan Mela) at Khalsa College, Amritsar, set to run from November 18th to 20th, 2024. This exciting three-day event aims to inspire students’ interest in Science & Technology, bringing STEM subjects to life through interactive exhibits, engaging activities, and creative competitions.

The Vigyan Mela will showcase a variety of science activities designed to spark curiosity, featuring unique exhibits and hands-on stalls that make science both accessible and fascinating. Highlights include interactive learning experiences like Lab on Wheels and the entertaining Circus of Science, both aimed at immersing students in STEM education in a fun and captivating way. Competitions such as quizzes, poster-making, and model-building will further nurture creativity and critical thinking among students from schools and colleges.

Visitors can look forward to diverse sessions led by eminent resource persons covering topics like Visual Explanation of Geometry, Health & Innovative Science, Night Sky Watching, Telescope Making, Robotics & Drones, 3D Printing, and Rocket Making & Launching. Activity Corners will also be set up by the Punjab State Climate Change Knowledge Centre, EIACP Hub, and grassroots innovators associated with PSCST. Additionally, the event will host a science book exhibition, film screenings, scientist interactions, and stage shows focused on science, making it a unique educational experience for all attendees.

Adding to the vibrancy of the Mela, industries from Punjab involved in handicrafts and health products will display their innovative contributions, emphasizing the practical applications of science in various fields.

The event’s inaugural session will be graced by distinguished guests, including Sh. Priyank Bharti, IAS, Secretary of Science, Technology & Environment, Government of Punjab; Ms. Sakshi Sahney, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar; Er. Pritpal Singh, Executive Director of PSCST; Prof. Arun Grover, former Vice Chancellor of Panjab University; Sh. Dharamvir, former Chief Secretary of Haryana; Prof. Keya Dharamvir of SPSTI and Dr. K.S. Bath, Joint Director of PSCST.

With an anticipated attendance of approximately 8, 000 secondary school and college students from across Amritsar, the Festival of Science promises a stimulating environment to help students grasp the fundamentals of science in a lively, engaging atmosphere. By fostering a greater interest in STEM education and encouraging scientific thinking, the Vigyan Mela aims to build a solid foundation for future innovators and scientists in Punjab.
