CHANDIGARH: Continuing in its march to transform girls of Punjab into ‘Women of Substance’, three Lady Cadets of Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) for Girls, SAS Nagar (Mohali) have been selected for pre-commission training at the premier Indian Air Force Academy, Dundigal. The Training will be held from July 2023 onwards.
Lady Cadet Nivedita Saini is Daughter of Mr. Harinder Singh Saini, who is Principal in a Private School and hails from Pathankot, whereas Lady Cadets Savleen Kaur and Haroop Kaur belong to SAS Nagar (Mohali). Savleen’s father Mr. Jaspal Singh is a Senior Bank Manager and Haroop’s father Mr Bhagwant Singh is working as a Head Constable in Punjab Police.
Congratulating these daughters of Punjab for their selection in the prestigious Air Force Academy, Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Mr Aman Arora said that the Mai Bhago AFPI, which undoubtedly is the Pride of Punjab, is a unique initiative of the State Government to enable girls from Punjab to become commissioned officers in the Armed Forces, while concurrently pursuing their graduation.
He said that the commitment of the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government towards adding wings to the aspirations of girls from the State to serve the nation can also be gauged from its recent ‘Path Breaking’ initiative of approving an NDA Preparatory Wing for Girls at Mai Bhago AFPI, which will be commencing training from July 2023 onwards.
Expressing contentment over the selection of three lady cadets, the Director of Mai Bhago AFPI Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu, AVSM (Retd.) said that with this result, so far 26 Lady Cadets have joined various Armed Forces Training Academies. He also extended his best wishes to these lady cadets for a bright future ahead in defence services.
