Brahmpura Slams AAP Govt. for Looting Punjabis with VAT Hike on Fuel Prices

AMRIK SINGH | September 06, 2024 08:12 PM

TARN TARAN: Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, Chairman Punjab Rural Development Society, Vice President of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and former MLA from Khadoor Sahib Constituency, vehemently criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, for callously burdening the people of Punjab through unjustified fuel price hikes.

In a recent move, the Punjab Cabinet under Chief Minister Mann implemented a sharp increase in value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel, raising prices by 61 paise per litre and 92 paise per litre, respectively. This exorbitant surge in fuel taxes comes at a time when the citizens are already grappling with economic challenges exacerbated by the global crisis, " Brahmpura said.

Expressing deep concern over the government's insensitivity towards the public, Mr. Brahmpura highlighted that the AAP had betrayed the trust of the people by failing to deliver on their pre-election promises. The blatant attempt to fill state coffers at the expense of hardworking Punjabis underscores the self-serving agenda of the ruling party, " Brahmpura added.

State Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema's justification for the VAT hike solely revolving around generating additional revenue for the state showcases the government's skewed priorities While claiming to work for the welfare of the people, the AAP government's actions speak louder than their false assurances, revealing their true intentions of exploiting the populace for monetary gains, " Brahmpura said.

Brahmpura called upon the citizens of Punjab to stand united against such oppressive measures and demand accountability from the authorities. The Chairman of Punjab Rural Development Society reiterated his commitment to fighting for the rights and well-being of the people, pledging to expose and resist any policies that unjustly burden the common man.
