Akal Takht Jathedar takes strong notice of prohibiting baptised Sikh from entering airport, calls it attack on religious freedom

AMRIK SINGH | November 09, 2024 07:43 AM

AMRITSAR: The Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Giani Raghbir Singh has taken a strong notice of the prohibition of Amritdhari Sikh employees from performing duty wearing Kakar (Kirpan) at airports and termed it as an attack on the religious freedom of the Sikh community.

In a written statement issued by the Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat, Giani Raghbir Singh said that Sikhs have sacrificed more than 80 percent to liberate India from centuries of slavery.

He said that the Kirpan has been given to the Sikhs by the Gurus as a gift, which is an integral part of the Sikh life. For this reason, banning Amritdhari employees working at airports in India from wearing Kirpan, while indirectly depriving Sikhs of various services of the country, directly affects the religious freedom of Sikhs. There is an intolerable attack.

Giani Raghbir Singh has ordered the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to immediately write a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Minister of Aviation of India to inform them of the sentiments of the Sikh community against this unjust ban. After discussing this, a high-level delegation should be sent to give justice to the Amritdhari employees working at the airports the right to wear Kirpan.
