PATIALA: Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, a charitable hospital, has emerged a front runner in treatment of Coronavirus infected patients. Out of a total of 1089 Covid-19 patients admitted to the hospital from March 24 to August 2, as many as 855 have been discharged after recovery while 234 patients are presently undergoing treatment.
According to Col SPS Goraya, Medical Superintendent, till date there have been only two deaths because of Covid-19. Speaking about the patients admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) he said that of the total 50 admissions 31 had been discharged, two were referred and two died. There were 15 patients in the ICU now.
Col SPS Goraya said that the hospital is participating in a big way in the concerted efforts of the Punjab government to fight the deadly Coronavirus. With a view to mitigating the hardships being faced by the needy the hospital has made available to the government 300 beds exclusively for Coronavirus infected patients. This makes the hospital the only hospital in the State to have the highest number of available beds for Coronavirus patients.
Giving district wise details of the Covid-19 patients admitted he said 507 patients were from Mohali out of which 406 had been discharged and 101 were undergoing treatment. From Fatehgarh Sahib there were 355 patients of whom 254 had been discharged and 101 were under treatment. Out of 220 Covid-19 infected patients admitted from Ropar 188 had been discharged and 32 were under treatment. All six patients from Patiala had been discharged and one patient from Pathankot had also been discharged.
He said that because of the meticulous precautions being taken no doctor or paramedical staff had contracted Covid-19 while treating the patients.
The hospital management had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Punjab Health Systems Corporation in April wherein it was agreed that the hospital would make available 500 beds if need arose.
The hospital has a dedicated team of doctors and paramedics attending to the Coronavirus infected patients who have been putting in their best to ensure best possible medical treatment to the Corona patients, Dr Goraya added.
