Dr. Sekhon resigns as PMC Chief

PATIALA: Dr. A.S.Sekhon, President of the Punjab Medical Council today submitted his resignation as PMC Chief with immediate effect.

Dr. Sekhon, who was Dean of Gian Sagar Group of Institutions, in his resignation letter to the Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Education and Research has stated that he be relieved from his assignment immediately.

He had joined the President of the Punjab Medical Council on June 1, 2017 and his 5-year term was due to expire on May 31, 2022.

Dr. Sekhon has over 100 research papers presented at different conferences and published in medical journals. He remained national President of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) and was also awarded a fellowship of the IAPSM.

Having retired as Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine in the Government Medical College Patiala and Medical Superintendent of Rajindra Hospital in 2003, he worked as Registrar of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences upto 2005.

Dr. Sekhon had a stint as Director Principal of Adesh Medical College, Bathinda from 2005 to 2006 before moving to Gian Sagar Medical College in 2006. After Gian Sagar Medical College was revived in 2018 he joined as Dean and left the group in August 2021.

Dr. Sekhon served the army for five years and is a 1971 war veteran.
