PHAGWARA: A woman lost her life following an alleged minor altercation at a medical store on Sri Goindwal Sahib Road in Kapurthala. The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet, wife of Santokh Singh, originally from Bihar and currently residing in Dogarwal village.
According to reports, Gurpreet had accompanied her husband to the medical store to purchase medicine when a dispute arose with two individuals over an unspecified issue. The verbal disagreement escalated, after which Gurpreet reportedly collapsed and lost consciousness. She was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Kapurthala, where the on-duty doctor declared her deceased.
Her husband, Santokh Singh, stated that the confrontation with the two individuals was minor, but his wife became overwhelmed with fear and fainted. Following the incident, local police arrived at the scene and took the body into custody. It was subsequently placed in the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harjeet Singh from the City Police Station confirmed that the post-mortem examination was conducted, and legal proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) were initiated. The body has since been handed over to the family.
Authorities have not indicated any foul play at this stage but are continuing their investigation. Further developments will depend on the post-mortem findings and any additional evidence that emerges.
