Punjab CM terminates services of PPS officer for involvement in drug racket, blue eyed boy of Sukhbir Badal

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | April 17, 2023 09:04 PM

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today ordered to terminate the services of PPS officer, former SSP Rajjit Singh for his involvement in the drug racket. He was blue eyed boy of SAD president and former Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.

The Chief Minister has also asked the Vigilance Department to investigate the properties of Rajjit Singh he raised from the drug money. The CM action came after name of Rajjit Singh cropped up in three reports on drugs opened by Punjab and Haryana High Court. The reports were sealed in 2018 when Captain Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister but his government never approached the High Court to open the seled reports. Captain Amarinder Singh even opposed CBI inquiry into the drug racket in Punjab.

Rajjit Singh who was posted SSP in Moga, Hoshiarpur and Tarntarn during the SAD-BJP government led by Parkash Singh Badal was directly involved in drug smugglers. His name first came to light when the Special Task Force led by ADGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu arrested Inderjit Singh an Inspector of Punjab Police for his involvement in drug racket. Inderjit Singh duting his interogation had named Rajjit Singh as his mentor. Captain Amarinder Singh didnt allow Harpreet Singh Sidhu to take further action and clipped his wings. The matter was never investigated who were the mafia lords operating in Punjab. Sidhu had submitted his report in the High Court in sealed cover.

Rajit Singh and Inderjit Singh both had political protection allegedly by the then SAD-BJP government. It was alleged that Sukhbir Badal facilitated prime postings for Rajjit Singh and also allowed him to take Inderjit Singh where ever he was posted. Sukhbir Badal was the home minister at that time and he was directly looking into every posting of ranks from Insector to DGP level.

Punjab government is expecgted to take further action in the three sealed reports already opened by the High Court. Yet there is fourth report of SIT headed by DGP S Chatopadhya.

It is recalled that a dismissed DSP of Punjab Police Jagdish Bhola who was arrested in drug case had named former Minister and SAD leader Bikram Majithia as kingpin of drug trade in Pufnjab. Bhola was arrested following a chance arrest of NRI Anoop Singh with drugs. He had named Bhola in his confessional statement. Hardayal Singh the then SSP of Fatehgarh Sahib who had arrested Anoop Singh and Bhola was later trasnfereed to Faridkot and the further investigation into drug racket was never held during SAD-BJP government and Captain Amarinder Singh Government.

The drug mafia remained active in Punjab during respective government of Parkash Singh Badal and Capt Amarinder Singh. The present government has approached the High Court to open the sealed reports and started action on it. It is yet another question why High Court kept the reports sealed for four years.
