NAKODAR: In a major breakthrough, Jalandhar Rural Police has successfully busted an inter-district vehicle theft gang with the arrest of three accused and recovery of seven vehicles worth several lakhs of rupees. The gang had been actively operating in the Nakodar area, targeting two-wheelers.
The arrested accused have been identified as: Sunil Kumar alias Suraj resident of Village Boparai Kalan, near Nakodar, Jaskaran alias Tidda of village Chak Kalan, in Nakodar and Gurpreet Singh alias Keshi r/o Village Boparai Kalan, PS Sadar Nakodar
Speaking to this correspondent today, Senior Superintendent of Police, Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of vehicle lifters, a special drive was launched under his direct supervision. "The gang's modus operandi involved stealing vehicles and selling them at heavily discounted prices across different districts. This recovery has dealt a significant blow to the vehicle theft network in the region, " said SSP Khakh.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath, Sukhpal Singh, DSP Nakodar and Inspector Aman Saini, SHO Nakodar City.
Based on reliable information, the police team established a special checking point at Shankar Bridge on November 18, 2024. The team intercepted and arrested two accused along with stolen vehicles. Following their interrogation, the third accused was apprehended, leading to the recovery of: 3 Splendor Motorcycles, 1 Pulsar Motorcycle, 1 CT Deluxe Motorcycle and 2 Activa Scooters
A case under BNS sections 303(2), 317(2) has been registered at Police Station Nakodar City against the accused.
Preliminary Investigation reveals that the accused Sunil Kumar alias Suraj has previous criminal records FIR No. 22, dated 27-03-2023 under section 380, 457, 379, 411 IPC at police station Sadar Nakodar and FIR No. 141, dated 29-11-2023 under section 22-B-61-85 NDPS Act, police station City Nakodar and the Accused Jaskaran alias Tidda has a previous FIR No 28, 13-02-221 under 457, 380 IPC at police station Sadar Nakodar.
The arrested accused will be produced in the local court and police remand will be sought to investigate their network connections and recover more stolen vehicles. Further investigation is underway to identify the buyers of these stolen vehicles and uncover additional accomplices.
Zero tolerance policy against street crime, said SSP Khakh, adding that Jalandhar Rural Police is committed to maintaining law and order in the district. He assured that more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.(EOM)
