PHAGWARA: The Shahkot police have arrested two persons for their involvement in running an illegal deaddiction center at Koharr Kalan village of the Shahkot subdivision.
Shahkot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Onkar Singh Brar said that the arrested accused had been identified as Amardeep Singhs a resident of Mohalla Dashmesh Nagar Moga and Jaskaran a resident of Mohalla Vishwakarma Nagar Moga.
Ranjit Kaur superintendent (grade 2) in the office of Jalandhar deputy commissioner forwarded a complaint to the Shahkot sub-divisional magistrate, medical officer, and the police received from the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC)regarding the illegal drug deaddiction center at Koharr Kalan village under the name of Akal Sahaye Rehabilitation and directed to act. DSP said a joint team of civil and police officials had inspected a center where two accused were present and could not answer questions about their center and could not produce any documents to run center.
DSP said during the inspection it was found that 17 persons were kept as prisoners in a hall and there was no board in the Centre building.
Brar said the patients admitted at the Centre were kept illegally only with a motive to earn money by cheating their parents.
DSP said 17 patients were shifted temporarily to the deaddiction center at Jalandhar Civil Hospital in an ambulance for proper treatment and care. Koharr Kalan Centre was fully vacated and locked.
DSP said a case under sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property )(127(4) (wrongful confinement for ten or more days )223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant )of the BNS has been registered against the accused and Sarabjit Singh alias Nikka Singh a resident and presently living at Koharr Kalan village which is absconding.
