CHANDIGARH: Senior BJP leader and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday attacked the Congress and said that the Congress could not win even 100 seats for the third consecutive Lok Sabha election and in this election it had to face its third worst defeat.

Sitharaman was speaking at the Chandigarh BJP state executive meeting, where she was the chief guest. Later, she held a meeting with traders and understood their problems and heard their demands. The finance minister further said that the Congress could not win a single seat in 14 states. A total of 13 indi alliance parties managed to win only 232 seats, while the BJP won 242 seats on its own. She said, "But they are celebrating as if they have won the election. In the last 10 Lok Sabha elections from 1984 to 2024, the Congress could not even cross the 250-seat mark, but they have this artificial confidence."

Sitharaman said that the opposition did not fight this election in a fair manner. They created fake narratives, the effect of which was so much that no matter how much effort is made to convince the people, it is too late.

She said that the opposition distorted the statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on several issues and tried to create a fake narrative. He said that the BJP should respond to this with facts and figures.

She said that on every issue, Congress or its supporters knocked at door of the Supreme Court, but the decision came in favour of the BJP-led government. Rahul Gandhi abused the RSS and he had to apologize in court. Congress said that there was corruption in the Rafale deal they again had to apologize in court. But, they were shameless.

A notification of Samvidhan Hatya Diwas has been issued to remember what happened during the Emergency. Every opposition leader was sent to jail. The words socialism and secularism were added to the Constitution in 1975 itself.

He said unlike the bomb blasts in India during the Congress regime, the country was moving in a positive direction. Be it solar energy or artificial intelligence, both the sectors have seen good growth. "We have a responsible government which is doing good work in other sectors as well, " she said. Earlier, BJP president Jatinder Pal Malhotra listed the achievements of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. He said not only in India, but also was doing well at the global level. Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon said the party was going to achieve greater heights in its third term.
