RBU hosts webinar on wellness movement

MOHALI: The University School of Education of the Rayat Bahra University organized a webinar on the `Wellness Movement’. Principals, faculty members and students from different colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh attended the webinar.

The webinar was organized under the leadership of Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University. Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the resource person Dr Kulwinder Singh, Professor (Retd) of the Department of Education and Community Services, Punjabi University, Patiala.

Dr Kulwinder Singh said that the key to a healthy life is having a healthy mind. Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted our normal routines but we should not allow it to disrupt our personal fitness as responders. He highlighted factors that help us to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Dr Navneet Chopra, Head, University School of Education, in his introductory address said that Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted our normal routines. At a time when stress and anxiety are at an all time high for many of us, maintaining fitness can provide some benefits to mitigate those stressors. Staying home, away from their peers, unable to attend educational institutions in person can be challenging for the youth. Hence, there is a need to give significant attention towards the realization of good health and wellbeing on a global scale.

Dr Kulwinder singh said that the wellness movement as its global purpose of “promotion of healthy and enriching quality of life” among communities has found a place in Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs).

It is in tune with goal 3 of Sustainable Development Goals (2015- 30): “To ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages”. Good health is essential in sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda.

He said that considering the global pandemic of COVID-19 now fear of entering into third phase after a devastating impact on human life during 2020-21 there is a need to give significant attention towards the realization of good health and wellbeing on a global scale.

Prof BS Satyal, Registrar, Rayat Bahra University, in his concluding remarks said that wellness is a scientific pathway to success, happiness and wellbeing.
