Panjab University organised special lecture on the Mahaparinirvan Divas of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

CHANDIGARH: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Centre, Panjab University (PU) today organised a special lecture on the Mahaparinirvan Divas of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

Prof. Narender Kumar, Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi delivered the lecture on ‘Relevance of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Contemporary Times’. He underscored the enduring significance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's ideas in the context of contemporary India and the global landscape. The lecture revolved around the remarkable relevance of Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions, despite being propounded nearly a century ago. He also emphasised how Dr. Ambedkar's thoughts and philosophy continue to provide guidance during moments of crisis. Today, not only higher courts and other state institutions look back to Dr. Ambedkar in case of diverse crises but also ordinary citizens uphold him and his ideas with deep respect and expectation.

Professor Kumar further mentioned that over the past 75 years, Dr. Ambedkar is becoming relevant and significant with every passing day. His contributions to the fields of social justice, equality, and constitutionalism remain a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration for addressing modern-day challenges. In his lecture, Professor Kumar also highlighted the resurgence of academic interest in Dr. Ambedkar's speeches and writings. New explorations and reinterpretations are emerging from diverse scholarly engagements, reaffirming the universal appeal and timeless wisdom embedded in his philosophy, he added.

Earlier, Prof. Navjot, Coordinator, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Centre, highlighted the different activities of the Centre to disseminate the philosophy of Ambedkar and formally introduced the speaker of the day. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Ronki Ram, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chair, Department of Political Science.

The lecture served as a powerful reminder of Dr. Ambedkar's unparalleled vision and his enduring role in shaping a more inclusive and just society. The lecture was followed by a healthy discussion between students and the speaker. The lecture ended with a formal vote of thanks.
