MOHALI: University School of Sciences, Rayat Bahra University celebrated National Mathematics Day (NMD-2021) to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The programme was catalysed and supported by National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh.
The main objective of the event was to provide a platform where the students can enhance their knowledge about the applications of Mathematics. The events encompassed activities like quiz zen and expert talk.
Chief Guest Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University, inaugurated the event .
Dr Simerjit Kaur, Dean of Student Welfare of the RBU, in her welcome address emphasised the need of mathematics in our daily life and research.
Over 1, 000 students participated in the Quiz Zen competition held in online mode. The massive participation revealed the knowledge, aptitude and ability of the participants.
Dr. Dinesh Khurana, Head of the Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh, delivering expert talk on “Some interesting facts about primes” dwelt on handling primes and its significance in mathematics. He highlighted the key role of primes in various fields as cryptography, RSA cryptosystem, which is used for practical problem solving.
Dr CP Gandhi enlightened the audience about the applications of mathematics in different fields of research and technology. He discussed the types, application and importance of mathematics. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Ravneet Kaur and the prize declaration ceremony to the winners.
