GND University's Landscape Department is actively engaged in planting new saplings as the monsoon season arrives in Punjab.

AMRITSAR: Guru Nanak Dev University's Landscape Department is actively engaged in planting new saplings as the monsoon season arrives in Punjab. Over the past five to six years, the department has planted thousands of saplings each year, contributing to the university's lush green environment. Vice Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu's personal commitment has further intensified the university's tree planting efforts, resulting in a greener campus throughout the year.

In line with this commitment, the university has initiated the establishment of Guru Nanak Gardens during this monsoon season. Collaborating with Punjab Government's Forestry Department, the Landscape Department commenced planting these gardens and additional plants across campus by sowing a sapling. LSO Gurwinder Singh and Advisor Dr. Jaswinder Singh Bilga and Range Officer, Sukhwinder Singh, Block Officer Nirmal Singh, Forest Guard Gurdeep Singh from the forestry department were present during this initiative.

Gurwinder Singh mentioned that this year, a total of six thousand saplings will be planted in vacant areas within the university along with three Guru Nanak Gardens under DFO Mr. Malkit Singh's guidance from Forest Department. This effort aims to enhance environmental aesthetics within and around campus while reducing pollution levels in adjacent areas. Each Guru Nanak garden will feature 550 plants encompassing 12 varieties including Mango, Awla, Pipal, Bohar, Tahli, Neem, Dharek, Bahera and Siris.
Under Vice Chancellor’s guidance and leadership provided by University’s Landscape Officer Gurvinder Singh and advisor Dr.Jaswinder Singh Bilga, special attention is being given to develop these Guru Nanak Gardens effectively.

Gurwinder Singh said that tree planting activities have been consistently carried out every monsoon season within Guru Nanak Dev University under Prof. Sandhu’s directions; more than 40, 000 plants including shade trees, fruit-bearing trees, and flowering plants were planted on campus during the period of last 5-6 years. The Landscape Department not only maintains lawns and trees but also cultivates seasonal flowers across different parts of campus every year for decorative purposes
