MOHALI : Rayat Bahra University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Organized a seminar to draw attention to Indian Organ Donation Day with the theme “be a part of the movement to promote organ donation” under the banner of NSS wing of USPS RBU. The aim of this day is to motivate normal human, healthcare provider, pharmacist beings to pledge to donate organs after death, and to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.
On this occasion Honorable Vice Chancellor of university, Prof. Raj Singh, invited speaker Dr. Vipin Koushal, Prof. Hospital administration PGI Chandigarh, Dean USPS, Dr. S.L. Harikumar, Registrar, Prof. O.P. Midha, Rayat Bahra University. Dean USPS, Prof. S.L. Harikumar, welcome the guests and said that the organ donor can play a big role in saving others’ life. The organ of the donor can be transplanted to the patient who needs it urgently.
Dr. Vipin Koushal, Prof. PGIMER, Chandigarh deliver expert talk on Organ donation to the students of pharmacy, nursing and dental. He insisted that organ donation- is a gift of Life. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has urged people of all communities to come forth and generously donate organs to help the noble cause of saving precious lives.
The lack of awareness, myths and fears in peoples ‘mind about organ donation hinders the initiation taken by NOTTO (National Organ Tissue Transplant Organization) is celebrated. The aim of this day is to motivate normal human beings to pledge to donate organs after death, and to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.
He said that organ donation mean donating a donor's organs like heart, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, and pancreas, after the donor dies, for the purpose of transplanting them into another person who is in need of an organ.
Ms. Saryu Madra, Consultant (IEC/Media) with ROTTO PGIMER, Chandigarh interacted with audience said about the facts about organ donation, she said that Anybody can be an organ donor irrespective of their age, caste, religion, community etc.she further stated that Tissues such as cornea, heart valves, skin, and bone can be donated in case of natural death but vital organs such as heart, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, and pancreas can be donated only in the case of ‘brain death’and Organs such as the heart, pancreas, liver, kidneys and lungs can be transplanted to those recipients whose organs are failing because it allows many recipients to return to a normal lifestyle.
