Punjab Police AIG held guilty of taking Rs.50,000 bribe

CHANDIGARH: The CBI court in Chandigarh will pronounce quantum of sentence to Punjab Police AIG P.S.Sandhu(54) on Augusut 3 in a corruption case in which the cpurt held him guilty on July 31. Sandhu was in internal vigilance caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from another official to hush up an inquiry.

The CBI had arrested Sandhu from a cafe in sector 28 where he had called the complainant Nishant Sharma a self styled Shiv Sena leader. Sandhu had contested the prosecution charge saying that Nishant Sharma had repaid loan taken from him and it was not a bribe. He had reportedly demanded Rxs.3 lakhs from Nishant but deal was struck at Rs.50,000.

Sandhu is Punjab Police  Service officer and he was suspended on July 20 2011 a week after his arrest on July 13, 2011.
