Indian Railways clinch Surjit Hockey Trophy

JALANDHAR: Indian Railways clinched the title of 38th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament by beating Punjab & Sind bank Delhi by 3-1 in the finals at Katoch Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar Cantonment here this evening. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was introduced to the finalist teams before the final match.

The winners bagged Rs 5 lakh and the Winners Trophy and runners-up bagged Rs 2 lakh and the trophy. Punjab Education and Sports Minister Pargat Singh gave away the prizes to the teams.

Pardeep Singh of Indian Railways declared best Player of the Tournament and awarded Rs 51000 cash in the memory of Mohinder Singh Tut. Gakhal Brothers gave Rs 11 Lakhs to Indian Men and Women Hockey teams. Indian Hockey Teams members Rupinder Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh and Shamsher Singh were also present on this occasion.

The final match played on very fast note. In the first quarter’s 14th minute Indian Railway earned first penalty corner, their Ajmer Singh sounded the board (1-0). In the very next minute Punjab & Sind bank equalized from the field goal by Maninderjeet Singh from the pass of Satbir Singh (1-1). In the 30th minute of the play Indian Railways earned second penalty corner their Pardeep Singh scored (2-1). In the last minute of the game Indian Railways Varinder Singh completed the tally with field goal (3-1).
