CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has registered a corruption case against Harmandeep Singh, posted as personal assistant (PA) to deputy commissioner (DC) Tarn Taran, Harsimranjit Singh, clerk posted at Election Cell, Tarn Taran and his accomplice Jagroop Singh, Data Entry Operator, posted on contractual basis at Election Cell, Tarn Taran for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20, 000. In this case Harmandeep Singh PA, and Jagroop Singh, Data Entry Operator, have been arrested while Harsimranjit Singh, clerk evading his arrest.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused have been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Sandeep Singh, a resident of Mohala Tonk Kshatriya, Tarn Taran city. The complainant alleged in his complaint that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 100, 000 for clearing the bills of videography services provided during the recent Lok Sabha Elections 2024 but the deal was struck at Rs. 50, 000. The complaint further alleged that the accused had earlier accepted Rs 20, 000 as the first installments.
The spokesperson further informed that after a preliminary enquiry into this complaint a VB team laid a trap during which the accused Harmandeep Singh PA, and Jagroop Singh, Data Entry Operator, were caught red handed while accepting second installment of bribe of Rs. 20, 000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station, Range Amritsar. The accused would be produced in the competent court and further investigations into this case was under progress.
