AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has rejected the resignation of Jathedar Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo Giani Harpreet Singh. While addressing reporters at the Shiromani Committee's headquarters, Advocate Dhami said that the Shiromani Committee has always respected the Jathedars of the Takht Sahibs and will continue to do so.
He said that the services rendered by Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib and Sri Akal Takht Sahib have been commendable and the nation needs his services in future also.
SGPC president said that the nation is currently going through a critical period, as anti-cult forces are constantly targeting Sikh institutions. In such a time, it is the common responsibility of all to avoid any controversy and act for the greater interests of the nation.
He said that already RSS, BJP and anti-cult forces are moving forward with the intention of breaking the Sikh institutions, an example of which is to break up the Shiromani Committee by forming a separate Haryana Gurdwara Management Committee and the government in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. Advocate Dhami said that it is not right to get into any controversy for the strength of the nation's institutions.
He said that the Jathedar Sahib has already ordered that no kind of statement should be made and he appeals from the Shiromani Committee that no leader should make such statement which hurts the honor of Sikh institutions and the nation.
On this occasion, Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami along with Shiromani Committee member S. Gurpal Singh Gora, Secretary Pratap Singh, Mr. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, s. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, s. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, Mr. Bijay Singh, Deputy Secretary Jaswinder Singh Jassi, s. Harbhajan Singh Speaker, Superintendent S. Nishan Singh and others were present.
It may be mentioned that Giani Harpreet Singh Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib had submitted his resignation yesterday and blamed Virsa Singh Valtoha and other Akali Dal leaders for giving threats to him and his family.
Valtoha has alleged that Giani Harpreett Singh was working under the influence of RSS and BJP. Jathedar said that he never expected Valtoha would steep so low. He said that some SAD leaders were also hounding him and calling his caste.
Giani Harpreet Singh was part of five Sikh High priests who had ordered the SAD acting president Balwinder Singh Bhundar to expel Virsa Singh Valtoha from he party for ten years. SAD however ignored the directive of Akal Takht and allowed Valtoha to submit his resignation.
Giani Raghbir Singh said that if SGPC accepts resignation of Giani Harpreet Singh he and other Sikh Jathdars would also submit their resignations. He also appealed to Giani Harpreet Singh to reconsider his decision.
