CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has added new Observers including S Gurpartap Singh Wadala to supervise the massive membership drive started by the party on January 20.

Disclosing this here today, senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said a decision to this effect had been taken in a meeting of the party’s parliamentary board which was presided over by Working President Balwinder Singh Bhundar.

Wadala has rejected the announcement of SAD and described it violation of Akal Takht verdict. He said that SAD membership shall be made under seven member committee appointed by Akal Takht Jathedar.

The parliamentary board also decided that S Varinder Singh Bajwa, who had earlier been assigned Nawan Shahar district, will now join Shiromani Committee president S Hariinder S Dhami in Hoshiarpur district. S Jarnail Singh Wahd will look after Nawan Shahar district.

Dr Cheema said the Board also decided that Raj Singh Dibbipura will join Joginder Jindu in Ferozepur district and S Preet Inder Singh, President, Sri Muktsar Sahib, will join Vardev Singh Mann in Fazilka district.

Dr Cheema further clarified that if Bibi Satwant Kaur ji wished to serve the party, she was most welcome to join it. “Bibi Satwant Kaur belongs to one of the most respected religious families of Punjab and her presence in the party will be a matter of honour for us. However since she is an employee of the SGPC and drawing salary from the apex religious body, she should resign from her post before joining a political party as per the rules.

The SAD reiterated that it did not have any hesitation in giving an appropriate responsibility to her.
“The decision to join or not to join is to be taken by Bibi Satwant Kaur ji herself”, he added.
