Second case after Punjab Police officials beat up a army Colonel
CHANDIGARH: Following the intervention of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi, the Amritsar Police have incorporated sections of the SC/ST Act in a case involving the assault and casteist abuse of a CRPF constable by Punjab Police personnel.

This is the second case in which Punjab Police officials had beaten up men in uniform from other services. In Patiaa a few days back the three Punjab Police Inspectors and 9 of their gunmen were suspended for beating up a Colonel of India Army. State government is trying its best to save the police officials. They are not yet named in the FIR, the family of victim.

According to a spokesperson of the SC Commission, the action was taken in response to a written complaint submitted by Parminder Kaur wife of Bhushan Kumar, resident of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar. In her complaint, she alleged that her husband, a CRPF constable, was unjustifiably beaten by ASI Jaswinder Singh and Havildar Baljinder Singh, who also hurled casteist insults at him. Despite filing a complaint at the police station, authorities had registered a cross-case against Bhushan Kumar himself.

The spokesperson informed that while police had initially registered a case against ASI Jaswinder Singh and Havildar Baljinder Singh, they had omitted sections of the SC/ST Act. Upon the Commission's directives to reinvestigate the matter and include these vital sections, the Amritsar Police complied today and have assured the Commission that the case registered against Bhushan Kumar will be withdrawn soon.
