Punjab Police identifies two accused involved in attack on US based NRI: Dhoke

AMRITSAR: R.N.Dhoke Special DGP (Internal Security) today claimed that two accused involved in the attack on US based NRI at Daburji village near here have been identified and would be arrested soon. One accused belonged to Kapurthala and other to Jalandhar.

Dhoke had reached the home of NRI Sukhchain Singh who was shot at and injured critically by two assailants. The accused escaped on a bike after committing the crime. The family of NRI was given assurance by Dhoke that accused would be nabbed soon. The police has registered FIR against five persons named by the mother of Sukhchain Singh. They are relatives of first wife of Sukhchain Singh. The injured NRI had also received threatening phone call a few days back.

Dhoke said that Punjab Police was working hard to arrest the two accused and their motive would be clear after the arrest. He said that there was possibility of more than two persons involved in the crime. The whole incident of attack was recorded on the CCTV cameras and police has also secured footage of CCTV's installed in the area and highways. The three persons were seen riding a motorcycle.

The family members of NRI said that Sukhchain Singh had returned to Punjab to start a business. According to a report some miscreants had also called the NRI's brother in USA that he would meet the same fate if returned to Punjab.

The incident caused a major embarrassment to the AAP government led by Bhagwant Mann as the incident had sparked criticism of the state government and the police. AAP has criticised the opposition parties for politicizing a family dispute.
