Overseas Punjabi Community Condemns Abolishment of Advisor Post in Chandigarh-Satnam Singh Chahal

JALANDHAR: The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), led by Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal, has strongly condemned the Central Government's decision to abolish the post of Advisor to the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh and replace it with the office of a Chief Secretary.

In a statement issued to the press, Chahal expressed the deep anguish of the overseas Punjabi community regarding this move, which they perceive as a significant step towards weakening Punjab's historic and rightful claim over Chandigarh. The decision, taken through a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs late on Tuesday, has sparked widespread criticism from non-BJP parties in Punjab and across the global Punjabi diaspora.

"This action undermines the aspirations of Punjabis, as it diminishes the hope of Chandigarh ever being restored as Punjab's capital. Chandigarh has always been an integral part of Punjab’s cultural and historical identity, and any attempt to dilute Punjab's stake in it is unacceptable, " said Chahal.

The Punjabi community overseas views this development as a clear indication of the Central Government's intention to further marginalize Punjab's interests in governance and territorial claims. NAPA calls upon all Punjabis, irrespective of political affiliations, to unite and demand a reversal of this decision. Chahal urged the Central Government to respect the sentiments of the Punjabi people and address the long-pending demand for the restoration of Chandigarh as Punjab’s capital. He also appealed to international organizations and human rights groups to take note of the issue and support Punjab's cause.NAPA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Punjab's interests and raising the voice of the Punjabi diaspora on global platforms.
