-Punjab government completely failed to prevent desecration incidents and punish the culprits: Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargajj
AMRITSAR: Taking serious note of the incident in Nurpur Jattan village of Hoshiarpur district, where mischievous elements torn the sacred parts of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, strongly stated that the Punjab government has completely failed to prevent incidents of desecration and punish the guilty.
He added that if the government had ensured strict punishment in previous cases of desecration, such mischievous elements would not have dared to commit such acts again.
He declared that until the investigation is complete, the Granthi and the entire management committee of the concerned Gurdwara are dismissed and have been summoned to Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargajj urged the Sikh Sangat to ensure round-the-clock vigilance and installation of surveillance cameras in all Gurdwaras.
He expressed concern that despite repeated appeals from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), proper camera systems and continuous security measures are not being implemented by some Gurdwara management, which is a grave negligence that will not be tolerated and will be dealt with strictly.
He emphasized that such incidents deeply wound the hearts of Sikhs across the world and desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib can never be tolerated. Therefore, strict action is essential to curb these incidents.
He declared that until the investigation is complete, the Granthi and the entire management committee of the concerned Gurdwara are dismissed and have been summoned to Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Jathedar Gargajj urged the Punjab government and police administration to immediately trace and ensure strict punishment for the culprits involved in this incident in Nurpur Jattan. He said it is extremely painful and alarming that miscreants have become so emboldened that they now enter Gurdwaras and commit desecration. This is a matter of serious concern for the entire Sikh community and calls for deep collective deliberation.
Jathedar Gargajj once again urged both the Centre and state governments to enact strict and special laws as per Sikh sentiments to prevent desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
He further informed that upon learning of the incident, an investigation team was immediately sent to the spot, led by Head Granthi of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Giani Joginder Singh, Panj Piaras, additional manager Hardev Singh and sub-office in-charge Gurbhag Singh. As per preliminary information received, the Gurdwara in question did not have adequate camera or security arrangements, indicating clear negligence on part of the management committee.
