Punjab

Former IAS, former police officers and Veteran ex- Army officers demand CBI inquiry in Col Bath case

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | March 23, 2025 01:32 PM

CHANDIGARH: Kirti Kisan Forum, a body of ex bureaucrats, Police Officers, Veterans of Armed Forces, Doctors, Engineers and social activists in statement said here today that it has been deeply hurt over a senseless and violent treatment of a serving outstanding Colonel Punshpinder Singh Batth, his son Angad by a posse of 12 officers and personnel of Patiala police. They were belaboured, attacked, violently beaten, abused without provocation in total violation of laid down and well known protocol.

It is most regrettable that local commanders of Patiala Police have complicated the matter by partisan attitude. It is difficult to imagine that a uniformed organisation should have attacked a family of Country’s Defence Forces and further threatened them from taking legal recourse. Such blatant, illegal, violent behaviour is unacceptable in a democratic country. We condemn this violent incident and unworthy efforts by higher command to bury the matter.

It is painful to see that a video is circulating of corruption of a senior officer and no statement is available of the State Government on such serious allegations.Public is very suspicious of effort of State Government to order a magisterial enquiry when it is widely known that executive magistracy of Punjab has lost its neutrality and independence since long when it comes to investigation of crimes of Punjab Police personnel. The public is taking it as a mere eyewash. A CBI enquiry or by a retired Judge of High Court only can inspire confidence of Defence Forces which is imperative for maintaining the high morale of our Armed Defence Forces. We appeal to the good sense of the State Govt even at this stage to request Government of India for CBI enquiry or themselves order an enquiry by a High Court Judge.
