Deeply regretted the death of Karam Singh Kothaguru
CHANDIGARH: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan) has condemned the police case against BKU revolutionary leaders for peaceful protest during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab three years ago on January 26.
In a joint press statement issued by the organization's President Joginder Singh Ugrahan and General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan, it has been demanded that this case be withdrawn as the democratic right to peacefully protest against any ruler is enshrined in the Constitution.
He alleged that after SKM got the black farming law repealed, the written promise made by the Modi government on December 9, 2021 regarding the legal guarantee of MSP and other important demands has not been fulfilled till date. Even then, as a protest, farmers' organizations had staged protests against the Prime Minister's visit to Punjab through various means. Even today, SKM's struggle continues on the demand to cancel the new agricultural marketing draft along with these demands.
He said that among the injured farmers in the road accident of the farmers' bus of village Kothaguru going to Tohana Mahapanchayat, the fifth farmer, young Karam Singh, who was undergoing treatment at DMC, also joined the ranks of martyrs yesterday. The farmer leaders have shared their deep regret over his death at an advanced age with his entire family, the people of Nagar Kothaguru and all the activists of the Ugrahan organization, including all the fighters of the farmers' movement.
