Amritsar Deputy Commissioner orders replacement of faulty lights and installation of reflectors in view of fog

AMRITSAR: Addressing the meeting of the Road Safety Committee, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sahni directed the officers to replace the damaged street lights on the roads in the city and install maximum reflectors in view of the foggy weather.

She said that apart from this, speed breakers should also be constructed in the city as per the requirement.

Keeping in mind the increasing traffic in the city, Mrs. Sahni also directed the corporation officers to make more parking spaces available for the people so that the vehicles do not remain parked on the roads.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the National Highway , Public Works Department , Mandi Board and the corporation officers to ensure appropriate arrangements on the roads falling under their respective jurisdictions as per the weather requirements.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed the concerned officials to bind the stray animals roaming on the roads of GT Road and put reflector tags around their necks .

She asked the forest department officials to take special care to ensure that tree branches or any other large trees do not fall on the roads .

She said that trees along the roadsides should be pruned to prevent accidents on the road .

She asked the National Highways officials to inspect the black spots and install signboards there and ensure that reflectors are installed on the rear of vehicles .

She said that it has been common to see some drivers park their vehicles on GT Road , which poses a risk of accidents .

She said that appropriate action should be taken against these vehicles immediately .

The Deputy Commissioner asked the National Highways officials to ensure the repair of service roads and also to construct speed breakers .

On which, National Highways officials said that they are working on a war footing and reflectors are also being installed on service roads as well as vehicles .

The Deputy Commissioner directed the District Child Protection Officer to ensure inspection of school buses/autos .

She said that school buses should be yellow in color and in foggy weather, fog lights as well as all indicators should be on .

She said that overloaded school buses / autos should be challaned . She said that it should be ensured that every bus has a driver in uniform, a license, and a helper .

She appealed to the residents of the district that if you see any school driver violating the rules, then inform the helpline number 1098 so that appropriate action can be taken against him .

The Deputy Commissioner asked the school authorities to organize competitions like slogan making, painting , quizzes etc. in schools to make children aware of traffic rules .

On this occasion, Regional Transport Secretary Mr. Khushdil Singh , District Development and Panchayat Officer Mr. Sandeep Malhotra , District Education Officer Rajesh Kumar , Engineer National Highway Mr. Anik Mahajan , District Child Protection Officer Mr. Taranjit Singh were present. Apart from this, officials from various departments were present .
