UPPCL defers bids opening following massive demonstrations on 96th day

CHANDIGARH:UP Power Employees today held a massive demonstration in Lucknow forcing the UP Power corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) to defer opening of technical bids for transaction advisor consultants . UPPCL has extended the submission of bids and opening of technical bids to March 10.

Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti agitation against privatization of Poorvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam enters 96th day today. Massive demonstrations were held across the state against opening of technical bids for selection of transaction advisor for privatization .The Samiti has demanded that the privatisation process of two discoms is clear violations of past agreements and no proper assets valuation of two Discoms has been done .

Shailendra Dubey Convener of Samiti said that the agitation would continue till the complete process is withdrawn and reposing the faith in the chief minister and appealed him to intervene as heavy investment has been made by the governments in these DISCOMs in the last few years under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to bring down the Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) Losses of these utilities. A National Strike of the electricity sector will be observed on 26th June 2025 by the electricity employees and engineers as decided in the NCCOEEE convention held at Nagpur.

Meanwhile Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh said that the UP government is conspiring to end jobs and reservation by privatising the government institutions. The government is hell bent upon handing over the assets worth billions to the private sector in the guise of privatisation.

V K Gupta said that All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF ) called for Immediate rollback of privatization plans of central and state governments and they must withdraw this anti-people decision and instead should focus on strengthening Discoms.
