PATNA: After a derogatory statement about the Prophet by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, massive protests were seen in Bihar's Nawada and Bhojpur districts on Friday.
Large sections of the Muslim community came out on the roads after offering Namaz (Prayer) in the mosques in Nawada and Arrah cities of Bihar and protested against former BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Navin Jindal.
The protestors were demanding that the National Security Act (NSA) be used against Sharma and Jindal and they be immediately arrested.
They chanted slogans against the BJP, RSS, Nupur Sharma and Navin Jindal.
The protests at Nawada and Arrah, the district headquarter of Bhojpur, erupted soon after the videos of the Jama Masjid of Delhi where thousands of Muslims protested against Nupur Sharma and Navin Jindal went viral.
In Arrah, the protestors claimed that the BJP and the RSS are not only protecting the two but also encouraging them to give hate speeches against the Muslim community.
Nupur Sharma had given hate statements during a live TV show of a private channel that led to outrage across Muslim countries.
Several Gulf countries' leaders had taken strong exception to the statement and summoned the Indian envoys in their countries to lodge a protest.
Meanwhile, sources said that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has directed Muslim scholars and religious leaders to avoid TV debates.
