Jalandhar rural police crackdown on drug smugglers continue, two held in Phillaur

PHILLAUR: In a significant breakthrough, Phillaur police have arrested two individuals in connection with drug smuggling and seized 169 drug pills along with ₹2, 310 in cash from separate locations. The operation was part of a district-wide crackdown on narcotics.

The arrested have been identified as Narinder Singh, son of Tirth Singh alias Ramtirth Singh, a resident of Dhakkamjara currently residing in Raipur Araya, Phillaur, and Kamaljit Kaur, wife of the late Karnail Chand, a resident of Ganna village, Phillaur.

Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that coordinated efforts are underway to dismantle local drug networks. “These arrests are a result of strategic operations aimed at curbing the flow of narcotics in the region, ” he said.

The operations were led by Inspector Sanjeev Kapur, Station House Officer of Phillaur Police Station, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarwan Singh Ball, Sub-Division Phillaur. Police set up special checkpoints at targeted locations, resulting in the swift arrests.

Narinder Singh was apprehended near Raipur Araya village with 69 drug pills and ₹810 in cash. An FIR has been registered under No. 320 dated 01.12.2024, sections 22/27A of the NDPS Act at Phillaur Police Station.

In a separate incident, Kamaljit Kaur was caught near a tea point on Noormahal Road, Ganna village, with 100 drug pills and ₹1, 500 in cash. A case has been filed under FIR No. 321 dated 01.12.2024, sections 22/27A of the NDPS Act at Phillaur Police Station.

Preliminary investigations indicate that both individuals were involved in drug distribution for an extended period. Narinder Singh and Kamaljit Kaur have previous cases registered under the NDPS and Excise Acts.

Both accused will be presented in court, with police seeking remand to further investigate their networks and possible accomplices.

“Strict action will continue against those involved in the drug trade to ensure the safety of our communities, ” SSP Khakh added.
