CHANDIGARH: A delegation of different organisations of General categories, Punjab, met Ashwini Sharma President Punjab BJP and apprised him about the difficulties / problems being faced by general category employees. They demanded that BJP should raise their voice for an early appointment of Chairman Category Welfare Commission and supporting staff for the smooth functioning of the commission. The commission was constituted in December 2021 by the then state government to look after the interests of the general category.

The delegation was led by Shyam Lal Sharma Chief Organiser and included , Sukhbir Singh, Jaswant Singh Brar, Sudesh Kamal Paramjit Singh , Kuljeet Singh Ratol, president, and others.

They also showed resentment over withdrawal of promotion orders for Principles issued by the Punjab government after the SC/ST commission wrote a letter to the Punjab government. There is a great resentment amongst general category employees over this issue.

Later they met Vijay Sampla, Chairman national SC/ST commission and apprised him about their genuine problems. They sought his help so that promoted principles from the general category are not demoted. They stressed that SC/ST employees are working on more than their share quota posts and this needs to be set right by giving due representation to general category employees as per their share quota.

V K gupta spokesperson said that later in the evening the different organisations in a meeting held urged the Punjab government not implement the 85th amendment in the state and to stop reservation benefits to the creamy layer amongst SC/ST employees. “It is pertinent to mention here that the notification of December 15, 2005, to implement the 85th amendment has already been quashed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court due to non-compliance of conditions imposed by the Supreme Court. The conditions imposed by the Supreme Court have not yet been complied with by the Punjab Government.
