AMRITSAR: Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today appealed to the Centre Government to declare a national holiday on the occasion of Parkash Purab (Birth Anniversary) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth and last Sikh Guru. He said Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s sacrifices for the nation were unparalleled in history and his ‘austerity, self-discipline and bravery” need to be remembered nation-wide.
Chhina in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the BJP-led NDA Government has taken so many decisions in favour ofPunjab in general and Sikh Community in particular. He said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi has special regard for the Sikhs, who are brave and committed to the welfare of mankind. He said the PM who reveres the Sikh Gurus and their philosophy has unflinching faith in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
“Thus, as a mark of respect and befitting dedication, the celebration of Gurpurab on January 6 must be declared as a national holiday. I appealed to the Modi Government to take no time in taking such a decision”, said Chhina adding that Punjab government and neighbouring state governments including Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have already declared holiday on Gurpurab.
He said that the Modi Government’s decision to celebrate the martyrdom day of Sahibzada Zoarawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji i.e. sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ has already been highly appreciated. Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the ‘Khalsa’ i.e. a casteless group of Sikhs that embodies courage and commitment. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a divine messenger, a warrior, a poet, and a philosopher.
Thus the whole country must celebrate his services for humanity. The Centre Government must declare the holiday on ‘Parkash Purab’ of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji so that the people from the other part of the country can also learn from the teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh JI.
