AMRITSAR: Giani Raghbir Singh Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has strongly condemned the manner in which a sedition case had been registered against Jathedar Tejinder Pal Singh Timma, Mukh Sevadar of Baba Deep Singh Gurdwara Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan).
Rajasthan Police has booked the Sikh preacher for promoting anti-national sentiments. Jathedar Akal Takht said Sikh preacher had only cautioned against communally inspired utterances against the Sikh community.
Calling for the immediate withdrawal of the false and regressive case registered against Jathedar Timma, Giani Raghbir Singh said that under the new legal system implemented in the country, the first case of sedition was registered against a Sikh, after the independence of the country, the Sikhs did a great deed.
He said that filing a sedition case against Tejinderpal Singh Timma for writing/speaking in support of Khalistan is in itself a violation of the Indian Constitution, because the Constitution of the country is the only one that gives freedom to every human being in a peaceful manner within the framework of democracy or gives the right to seek a separate state.
He said that if asking for a separate state or supporting it is treason, then why a case of treason not registered against those who spread communalism in the name of Hindu Rashtra?
Giani Raghbir Singh said that creating a sense of alienation within the Sikh community is not in the best interest of the country and the Government of India should immediately abandon the attitude of second-class citizens towards Sikhs and cancel the case filed against Tejinderpal Singh Timma.
