GUWAHATI: All Assam Engineer’s Association (AAEA), while greeting the new railway (along with information technology) minister in PM Narendra Modi’s Union cabinet, expresses hope that Ashwini Vaishnaw, who is a technocrat, would contribute immensely for the all-round growth of Indian Railways.
The forum of Assam based graduate engineers also urges the energetic central minister, who is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, to use the information technology extensively in the management of railways for the benefit of millions of commuters every single day.
AAEA categorically stated that the railway ministry should completely reform the management of excreta discharged from coaches carrying the passengers. Statistics reveal that over 2, 44, 000 bio-toilets have been installed in over 69, 000 train bogies. The number should be enhanced so that the deposition of human waste on the railway track can be minimized.
Minister Vaishnaw may think of facilitating short term stays for the interested passengers in and around the major railway stations so that the commuters can enjoy a hassle-free journey taking advantages of the scheme. Moreover, those stations should possess digital platform accounts (like koo) to put all relevant real time information for them, said an AAEA statement.
“Finally, we appeal to the minister to prevent the unfortunate carnage of wildlife on the railway track in various parts of the country, ” said AAEA president Er Kailash Sarma, working president Er Nava Jyoti Thakuria and secretary Inamul Hye adding that regular incidents relating to the annihilation of Asiatic elephants by superfast tarins are very depressing and it should be stopped at the earliest.
