10 trade unions threaten a general strike against labour laws, support farmers struggle

NEW DELHI: The Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions and Independent Federations and Associations meeting held on Tuesday in New Delhi expressed grave concern over the anti-people, anti-worker policies of the present government have led to unbearable burden of miseries, loss of jobs and unemployment on one hand and on the other hand, democratic rights of the people to protest and dissent were being curbed. The Centre is refusing to restore the Old Pension Scheme and for setting up of the 8th Pay Commission.

The Government is continuing its policies of privatisation/disinvestment and sale of public sector undertakings and Government services such as railways, defence, power, telecom, airports, Insurance etc.

The Joint Platform of CTUs extends full support to the ongoing struggles of the farmers and agricultural workers against the betrayal by the central government even for implementation of their written commitments on statutory minimum support price.(The central Government will be solely responsible for any untoward incident with Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on hunger strike for the last more than 40 days Trade unions are in constant dialogue with Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) for worker-farmer joint action programmes in the coming days. Meanwhile, a meeting of central trade unions 9CTU) and SKM is scheduled on 15th January to plan joint activities.

The Joint Platform of CTUs takes serious note of the desperate attempt by the ruling regime to notify all the four labour codes in its third term, which could have been prevented for so long through the united struggle of the working people even after their enactment in 2020.

On February 5 massive joint protests across the country at district and regional level against the anti-people measures including burning of the effigy of the budget.The date of the general strike will be announced in due course.
