District Administration Takes Strict Action against Violation of Trekking Ban in Dharamshala

ARVIND SHARMA | December 29, 2024 10:51 PM

DHARAMSALA: In a recent incident that has raised serious concerns about public safety, four trekking guides have been booked by the District Administration under Section 55 of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and Section 223, 3(5) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for violating the ban on trekking to higher reaches of Dharamshala.

Despite the clear directives issued by the District Magistrate prohibiting trekking to high-altitude areas due to ongoing adverse weather conditions (vide order no. 850 SK/DM dated 26.12.2024), the guides took a group of trekkers on expeditions to Triund, thereby putting their lives at risk.

The District Administration has registered an FIR (No. 0065, dated 28.12.2024) against the four guides for endangering the lives of the trekkers and violating government orders. The action was taken after reports confirmed that the guides disregarded safety protocols and took individuals on treks to areas deemed unsafe due to unpredictable weather and hazardous terrain.

The District Magistrate has issued a stern warning to all trekking operators, guides, and the general public. It is imperative that the public adhere to the restrictions in place to ensure their safety and well-being. The Administration emphasizes that any violation of these safety measures will result in strict legal consequences.

We urge everyone to refrain from undertaking trekking expeditions in high-altitude regions during this period and respect the guidelines set forth for public safety. The Administration remains committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors and will take firm action against those who jeopardize public safety.
