PHAGWARA: The Shahkot police have arrested three accused on the charge of extorting money posing themselves as police personnel.
Station House Officer (SHO) Aman Sanni said that the accused had been identified as Raja Singh son of Sukhdev Singh a resident of Mohalla Sant Pura Kapurthala, Davinder Singh son of Puran Singh a resident of Dhundian Wal village, Kapurthala, and Harjinder Singh son of Gurmej Singh a resident of Tibba village, Kapurthala.
Navneet Arora alias Nitan a resident near Truck Union Said Pur Jhirri , Shahkot complained to the police that on June 27 evening he came out of his house to go outside when a vehicle stopped near him, and three unidentified accused waylaid him and told him that they are from CIA staff Kapurthala and have information that some wrong work is going in his house and they have come for a riad.
The complainant said he became nervous after hearing this talk and told them that nothing wrong was going on in his house adding that the accused forced him to sit in their vehicle and demanded Rs 50;000 for his release.
Navneet said he gave them Rs 4000 from his pocket, but the accused termed it as too little, and he went into the house and gave them Rs 8000.
The complainant said the accused threatened him to keep mum otherwise a case would be registered against him adding that the accused posing as a police officer cheated him.
SHO said a case under sections 384(extortion)419(cheating by impersonation) 341(wrongful restrain) 506(criminal intimidation ) and 34 (committing the crime with common intention ) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused and recovered from them Rs 12, 000 and impounded their vehicle(CH01-AY-5234).
SHO said that Raja Singh was dismissed police officer serving in Kapurthala district and two such cases are pending against him in Kapurthala and one case under the Corruption Act in Vigilance Jalandhar.
