MOHALI: A court in Mohali on Friday convicted controversial pastor Baljinder Singh in a rape case, while five others were acquitted of charges. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on April 1.
The self-styled pastor was arrested on charges of raping a woman resident of Zirakpur. She had alleged that he lured her with false promises of assistance in traveling abroad.
On court orders Police immediately arrested Baljinder Singh and sent him to jail in judicial custody.
On Wednesday, supporters of Baljinder Singh reportedly staged a protest against his arrest, calling for the FIR against him to be revoked.
Yest another woman has filed a case of rape against the pastor but FIR is still to be registered in this case.
The 42-year-old pastor from Haryana was recently seen in a viral video throwing objects at a woman carrying a toddler. In the footage, the woman is seated with the child on her lap, while Singh, sitting in an office-like setup, suddenly starts throwing things at her. In another video from the same room, he is seen physically assaulting a man.
Singh was also in the news in February when a 22-year-old disciple came forward with allegations of mental harassment. She claimed that the pastor had harassed her since 2017, when she was a teenager, and that the abuse continued even after her marriage.
