PHAGWARA: In a significant achievement, the Phillaur Police successfully arrested an international Drugs Smuggler and recovered a huge quantity of heroin and weapons from his possession, while one of his other accomplice managed to flee.
Senior Superintendent of the Police(Rural) Swarandeep Singh and SP(Investigation) Sarabjit Singh Bahia while confirming it and giving details told here today that the arrested drug smuggler was identified as Gagandeep Singh@ Moar resident of Rahon Road Ludhiana.
They said two kilograms of Heroin( worth Rs 10 Crores, as per international drugs market), one 30 Bore Pistol and five live cartridges were recovered from the possession of the arrested accused.
SP Bahia said that the arrested Gagandeep confessed before the police that he was receiving drugs’ consignment from Pakistan through drones in the area of Tarn Taran and he was supplying it in several parts of the state.
Both Cops ie SSP and SP told that the confession and disclosure of a drug smuggler Gurdip Singh who was arrested on October 16 could provide a lead to the police to know whereabouts about Gagandeep who was supplying drugs in several towns of the state.
SP Bahia told that after getting the clue, the police party was dispatched to the hidden place in Moga, where the police had to face encounter with drugs smugglers and one of the constable C-2 Mandip Singh sustained bullet injuries in the encounter, but the brave cops succeeded to nab the accused Gagandeep while his other accomplice managed to escape.
SP Bahia said the injured cop was first treated in Moga then shifted to Global Hospital Jalandhar where his condition is stable now.
SSP Swarandeep Singh said the arrested accused disclosed before the police that he was already facing a murder case and was released on bail. He was involved in five other criminal cases and was declared proclaimed offender in two cases. SP Bahia said that the arrested Gagandeep was now on police remand till Friday and would be produced before judicial magistrate on October 21.
