PHAGWARA: The Non-Resident Indian (NRI) police station Jalandhar rural of the Punjab police has booked a Nurmahal resident on the charge of encroaching on an NRI‘s land.
Station House Officer (SHO) Jogindar Singh said the accused had been identified as Dinesh Kumar alias Nikku, son of Late Tirath Ram Sandhu, a resident of Mohalla Qila, Nurmahal
Amandeep Kaur wife of Jeet Singh a native of Shadi Pur village and living in England complained to the Additional Director General (ADGP) of Police NRI Wing Punjab Police that the accused had encroached on her husband’s ancestral land measuring more than 12 Kanals situated in Umar Pur village under Nurmahal police station.
SHO said this complaint was marked to him for inquiry.
He said in his inquiry report that the accused is the owner of Brik Klin near the land of NRI established by his late father Tirath Ram and constructed huts for labour on land.
SHO said Jeet Singh husband of the complainant came to his village two years ago and contacted Dinesh Kumar alias Niku and asked him to vacate his land but refused and asked the NRI to sell the land to him for Rs 9 Lakhs, but NRI rejected this proposal.
SHO concluded in his inquiry report that the encroach on NRI‘s land is correct and recommended registration of the case and sent it to ADGP.
District Attorney NRI wing opined registration of a case against Niku.
SHO said a case under sections 406 (breach of trust) and 447(criminal trespass) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
