PHAGWARA: In a major breakthrough, Kapurthala police successfully dismantled an inter-district robbery gang involved in a series of violent crimes across Punjab. The operation, spearheaded by the CIA staff Kapurthala under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora, resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of stolen goods, weapons, and a getaway vehicle.
Addressing the media, SSP Gaurav Toora disclosed that a special team led by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sarabjit Rai and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Detective) Parminder Singh was constituted to investigate a robbery case reported on January 15, 2025. Five unidentified men, traveling in a Swift Dzire, allegedly looted ₹8, 000 in cash and a mobile phone at gunpoint from Krishna, a resident of Tajpur, in Subhanpur.
Using advanced technical analysis and field intelligence, the police arrested Karanbir Singh alias Mota, a resident of Pakhopur village in Tarn Taran district. The team recovered a stolen Swift Dzire car without registration plates, an OPPO mobile phone, a country-made pistol (.32 bore) with five live cartridges, and a toy pistol from his possession.
SSP Toora said that during interrogation, the accused revealed the involvement of three accomplices—Vishal, Rajanbir, and Galu, all hailing from Tarn Taran. The gang is believed to have orchestrated a series of high-profile robberies, including:Snatching of an I-20 car near Boot village.Theft of a Swift Dzire in Kartarpur, Jalandhar, Robbery at a medical store in Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran, Cash theft in Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar, Theft of parcels in Sohian Jagraon, Ludhiana.
SSP Toora said that Inspector Jarnail Singh, in charge of the CIA staff, and ASI Charanjit Singh of the Technical Cell played a pivotal role in apprehending the accused. "This arrest demonstrates the effectiveness of our combined efforts and advanced investigative techniques, " said DSP Parminder Singh.
Police are intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining gang members. Authorities suspect the group may be involved in additional crimes across Punjab, with investigations ongoing to uncover their full criminal network.
SSP Gaurav Toora commended the team for their swift action and assured the public that law enforcement agencies remain committed to safeguarding citizens. "This operation sends a strong message that no criminal will escape the law, " he said.
