PHAGWARA: In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two notorious criminals involved in multiple nighttime dacoities in the Shahkot area on Tuesday. The police recovered stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the crimes.
The accused have been identified as Jatinder Jiti, of Mulewal Araya village, and Harjinder Singh, of Chitti village. According to the police, Jatinder has seven criminal cases registered against him, while Harjinder faces two cases.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that the arrests came following investigations into two recent dacoity cases. “In the early hours of August 18, around 2:30 a.m., three motorcycle-borne men committed a dacoity at the residence of Surinder Kaur in Miewal Arayan village, where two women were alone in the house. They snatched gold bangles and other valuables. In another incident on the night of September 28, two suspects broke into the house of Manpreet Kaur in Mulewal Arayan village, stealing gold ornaments, Rs 8, 000 in cash, and two mobile phones, ” SSP Khakh reported.
A special team led by Shahkot SHO Inspector Jatinder Singh, under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Onkar Singh Brar, conducted raids based on technical and human intelligence to apprehend the accused.
The police recovered an iPhone, a Samsung mobile phone, and a Platina motorcycle from their possession. “Initial investigations suggest the involvement of more individuals in these nighttime dacoities. We are conducting further raids to arrest their accomplices, ” said SSP Khakh.
In this regard, FIR No. 140, dated 28/09/2024, under section 305, 331(4), 3(5) BNS, has been registered against both accused at Police Station Shahkot, Jalandhar Rural.
Both accused were reportedly on bailout when they committed these crimes. Jatinder’s criminal record includes cases under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and multiple charges of dacoity, while Harjinder faces charges of forgery and violations of the Arms Act.
“The accused will be produced in court, and police remand will be sought for further investigation. We have adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards crime, and criminals will be dealt with strictly, ” SSP Khakh added.
