Jalandhar rural police apprehends four in Kabaddi player's attempt to murder case

NAKODAR: In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar rural police have arrested four persons in connection with the attempt to murder of a Kabaddi player over social media dispute.

The arrested accused have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh alias Khanna, son of Rajinder Singh of Nawa village Donewal under Lohian police station; Karan, son of Sukhdev Singh of Mohalla Akalpur Malsia under Shahkot police station; Ravi Kumar, son of Mewa Singh of Malsia; and Nitansh alias Nannu, son of Amarjit alias Pappu, also from Malsia.

Speaking to the press media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that the arrests came following a special campaign launched against anti-social elements. He said a team of Sadar Nakodar police station achieved this breakthrough under the guidance of SP (Investigation) Jasrup Kaur Bath, IPS.

A special team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhpal Singh of Sub-Division Nakodar and Station House Officer Baljinder Singh of Sadar Nakodar police station carried out the operation..

On October 17, the accused allegedly attacked Kabaddi player Simrandeep Singh, son of Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Nurpur Chatta, with sharp weapons, causing serious injuries. The police have recovered two iron daggers used in the crime.

A case under Sections 109, 118(2), 117(2), 126(2), 118(1), 115(2), 191(3), 190, and 61(2) of the BNS Act was registered at Sadar Nakodar police station on October 24.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the dispute originated from social media posts which eventually led to the violent assault. The accused had been monitoring the victim’s movements before launching the attack.

The accused will be produced in the local court and police remand will be sought to further investigate the matter.

SSP Khakh reiterated the police's zero tolerance stance against anti-social elements, emphasising that strict action would continue against those disturbing law and order in the district.
