Drug Traffickers and Illegal Liquor Seized in Mehatpur

PHAGWARA: Acting on credible information, Mehatpur police have launched a crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal liquor in the region. Two significant raids led to the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and illicit alcohol including 53 Kg Poppy Husk, 1 Kg Charas .

Addressing the media, DSP Onkar Singh Brar revealed that on the night of January 15, Inspector Sukhdev Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Mehatpur Police Station, along with his team, raided the residence of Nirmal Singh, alias Nimma, in Mehatpur. During the operation, the police recovered 53 kilograms of poppy husk, 1 kilogram of charas, and 100 liters of illegal country-made liquor.
The accused managed to escape, taking advantage of the darkness and fog. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to arrest the fugitive.

In a separate operation, Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh, while patrolling in Mehatpur, raided the residence of Jaswinder Kaur, wife of Jaspal Singh. The raid led to the recovery of 15 kilograms of poppy husk and 56 liters of illicit country liquor.

Jaswinder Kaur was arrested on the spot and presented before the court, which granted police a two-day remand for further investigation. Authorities expect to uncover additional leads during this period.
