RUPNAGAR: Dr Balbir Singh MLA of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from Patriala rural constituency was today sentenced to three years imprisonment by a local court in a criminal case registered against him in 2011.
He was convicted by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ropar Ravi Inder Singh in a criminal case registered section 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) , 324 (Voluntarily causes hurt ), 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) IPC.
A case was registered vide FIR no. 85 dated June 13, 2011 in police station Chamkaur sahib, district Rupnagar against Dr Balbir Singh and his family members- wife and son. The case was regarding a land dispute. The court framed the charges on August 5, 2017 and found them guilty under the various sections of IPC. The court has pronounced three years imprisonment to Dr.Balbir Singh, his wife Rupinder Kaur and son Rahul. Another person Parminder Singh charged in the case has also been given three years imprisonment.
The court granted them bail.
