CHANDIGARH: Tethys Fossil Museum recently hosted an enlightening event titled "Evolution and Beyond"; that captivated young minds with a journey through time. The event brought together keen students and expert speakers, offering insights into various scientific topics of great relevance today.
Adding to the intellectual buoyancy of the day, Professor Sanjiv Dhingra, a renowned scientist and Director of Canada Italy Tissue Engineering Program, Winnipeg, Canada, captivated the audience with his discussion on the advancements in stem cell research. Prof. Dhingra, an esteemed expert in stem cell therapy and tissue engineering simplified the complex world of stem cells for the young audience. His session illuminated the potential of stem cells in regenerative medicine, medical innovations, emphasizing their future applications in treating illnesses. Students and educators alike were fascinated by how future medical therapies could be revolutionized by these tiny yet powerful cell mechanisms.
Dr Dhingra also said that new technology was an advancing lab-grown organ- on-chip model for patient specific drug testing and new drug development addressing the challenges of personalized medicine with precision and safety.
Additionally, lab-grown meat offers a sustainable alternative, allowing meat consumption without animal slaughter, thus preserving animal welfare and benefiting the environment. These innovations mark a significant step toward a humane and
sustainable future.
Dr. Dhingra mentioned that he was quite pleased to see how Dr. Arya has been promoting the education and awareness in this area. Dr. Dhingra further added that he was looking forward to collaborating with Dr. Arya for many more sessions
like this one in the future also.
Dr. Ritesh Arya, a Guinness World Records holder and the Director of Tethys Fossil Museum, introduced the fascinating subject of evolution based on an impressive collection of more than 500 fossil specimens from different parts of the Himalayas. The fossils, meticulously curate and served as tangible evidence of the earth's historical narrative. Over 25 students from various schools participated, engaging with the specimens that encapsulated millions of years of biodiversity.
Dr.Arya’s session was deeply informative, providing students with a rare glimpse into the earth's evolutionary past and sparking their interest in paleontology.
The event was a resounding success, fostering a deeper understanding among students about the interconnectedness of life sciences. The amalgamation of paleontology and stem cell research highlighted the continuum of science from
historic roots to futuristic potential.
Museum Director Dr. Ritesh Arya remarked, Events like Evolution and Beyond are crucial in shaping the interest of young minds and kindling a passion for scientific exploration. We are delighted to have been able to provide a platform where curiosity meets knowledge, thanks to our esteemed speaker Dr Sanjeev Dhingra.
